You’ve always heard that you are never, ever supposed to wear white after Labor Day. But we have to disagree. We think a white smile looks good any time of year, which is why we provide year-round teeth whitening services to our patients.
For those of you headed out for Labor Day picnics and BBQs, be sure to pay attention to what you eat. Some sugary foods, like BBQ sauces, can cause tooth decay. In general, it is best to avoid sugary drinks and condiments. Some other tips we have for your Labor Day eating include:
- Swap crunchy potato chips with crunchy veggie platters.
- Add cheese to your burger! Dairy products help to strengthen teeth and gums.
- Use crushed ice instead of whole cubes so you can avoid chewing on hard ice, which can damage your teeth. This is a bad habit many people have that can ruin your teeth.
- End your meal with sugarless gum. Chewing on gum after a meal can wash away food and fight acids produced by cavity-causing bacteria.
Have a happy holiday weekend! And remember, if you have caused any damage to your teeth over the summer months, it’s a good time to check in with your dentist in the fall.
